What to expect at the consultation

After meeting you and your horse I will take a full history of the horse’s management regime, problems and background. This is to enable me to fully understand the behaviour the horse is presenting and tailor the advice I give to the individual combination of horse and owner.

I will then explain the reason for the horse's behaviour and discuss potential ways we can go about solving the problem. We will choose a program that suits you and your horse and start to work through it together. I will provide a full report of the cause of the problem and how we are going to modify it with step-by-step guides for you to work through.

I provide full back-up by phone if needed and can come out for as many consultations as you require (follow-up consultations vary in price depending on requirements).

I believe that it is vital for behaviourists to understand that physiology, learning theory, neurobiology and ethology all play a part in an animal’s behaviour and therefore in what is needed to solve the problem presented.

I use positive reinforcement techniques, including clicker training, because they are the safest and most effective way of modifying behaviour.

By law, I only work under veterinary referral but this can be sorted out easily.
